I’ll start with the second part to your question first. Late April and early May would be your better time. It’s less crowded and another thing you won’t have the excruciating heat and humidity. Cancún is a very humid place and in the middle of the summer the temperatures can reach 95+ and with the humidity it can be a scorcher if you aren’t use to it. As far as pricing goes it really all depends. Tourism is down due to the economy so you’ll be able to find some deals for any of those months. In all honesty though April and May is when people start to vacation so the travel companies know this and charge the higher rates so you could probably get by cheaper if you wait till mid summer. There are always deals you can find to Cancún though.
Now as far as your hotel options I can recommend a few for you to consider. I’m not sure how old your children are, but a few good family resorts are Crown Paradise Club Cancún. One of the better places for kids because they offer a wide variety of things for them to do such as a water park with water slides and all that fun stuff, mini-golf, rock/wall climbing, live entertainment/disco, a shuttle (twice daily) over to Aqua World where (included in the price of the hotel package) they have non-motorized watersports for them.
Another option is Cancún Palace. They offer a kids club (ages 4-12) and (teens club 13-17). Dreams Resort & Spa is nice for families as well. They offer amenities for children such as an explorers club where they can camp out and other fun things. They also have an oasis type area on their resort with live dolphins so they children may like that. The Riu chain is also a great consideration. There are three in Cancún… Riu Cancún, Riu Palace Las Americas, and Riu Caribe. They have daily entertainment as well as nightly shows they put on and activities for the children and the parents won’t be bored staying at a Riu. Any of these are good places to stay, but the Crown has the most activities for the children. If you need any more help or have questions feel free to send me a message and I can help you out further. Good luck in whatever you decide on. Cancún is gorgeous and you will have a great time!!!
